Overview

Sub-Frost PGFG Heat Transfer Fluid

Sub-Frost PGFG is a propylene glycol-based heat transfer fluid formulated for closed-loop systems where incidental food contact may be possible. It is designed for use in applications where leaks or accidental contact with food, beverages, or potable water could occur, while providing dependable freeze protection, burst protection, and corrosion inhibition.

Typical applications include:

  • HVAC systems
  • Fire protection systems
  • Solar heating systems
  • Refrigeration warehouse floor heating
  • Sidewalk and athletic field snow-melt systems
  • Cold room dehumidification systems
  • Other closed-loop heating and cooling systems

Sub-Frost PGFG contains dipotassium phosphate as its primary corrosion inhibitor. The formulation utilizes ingredients that are Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS) by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), including propylene glycol and dipotassium phosphate. Propylene glycol is listed under 21 CFR 184.1666, and dipotassium phosphate is listed under 21 CFR 182.6285.

The inhibitor package is designed to:

  • Help protect common system metals from corrosion
  • Reduce scaling and fouling on heat transfer surfaces
  • Buffer system pH to help maintain optimum operating conditions
  • Extend the service life of closed-loop systems

Its high-phosphate inhibitor formulation is compatible with the common metals used in heat transfer systems and with most plastic piping and system components.

Sub-Frost PGFG is recommended for operating temperatures from -45°F (-50°C) to 250°F (120°C). The level of freeze and burst protection depends on the concentration of propylene glycol and the amount of deionized water used in the finished solution.

Sub-Frost PGFG can be supplied as full concentrate or pre-mixed with deionized water to meet your system requirements. Standard concentrations include:

  • 25%
  • 30%
  • 35%
  • 40%
  • 45%
  • 50%
  • 55%
  • 60%
  • 70%
  • Full Concentrate

Available Packaging

  • 1-Gallon Bottles (6 per case)
  • 5-Gallon Pails
  • 55-Gallon Drums
  • 275-Gallon Totes
  • Bulk Tanker Deliveries

Note: Sub-Frost PGFG is intended for use as a heat transfer fluid in closed-loop systems. While it is formulated with GRAS ingredients commonly used in incidental food-contact applications, it is not intended for direct addition to food or beverages and should not be used where direct food contact is expected.

Applications

  • HVAC systems
  • Fire protection systems
  • Solar heating systems
  • Refrigeration warehouse floor heating
  • Sidewalk and athletic field snow-melt systems
